North West Harley Club started life way back in 1988 under the HOG banner, based in Southport along with the sponsoring Harley Davidson dealer Roger Kirwin from Easyriders (later known as Harley Davidson of Southport)
Our clubhouse was the basement of one of Rogers shops on Eastbank street, it was a home from home, sporting a bar, a pool table and a jukebox! and was the venue for some very memorable barbecue and firework parties.
As the membership numbers grew the need for bigger premises was met for a couple of years by the Bluebell pub in Burscough, and by the Richmond Hotel in Southport, in 1992 when the club decided to leave HOG and go it alone, we then became the ‘North West Harley Club’ and as now we were no longer tied to the dealer, we moved to a new location in Standish, which was the most central town to our members homes.
North West Harley Club likes to keep busy by attending regular club runs, rallies parties and bike shows, that is when we are not organising or attending our own events which include the Easter egg run, the Shindig and the Christmas party.
The egg run is a charity weekend in which all proceeds taken during the event are donated to local charities (Maplewood House children’s home and NABD to name only two) all of whom have received substantial amounts of generously given money over the years.
The ‘Shindig’ our main rally is a Harley only event attracting Harley riders from as far away as Holland, France, Belgium and Germany, so we must be doing something right! so its not one to be missed, the Christmas party is well…. exactly what it says on the tin, a Christmas party…. only better!
Membership into the North West Harley Club is a mere Fifteen pounds a year, which is great value for money when you consider the benefits which include a free club patch, reduced price of Shindig ticket, and discounts at many bike shops in the North West, i’m sure you’ll agree with me that it doesn’t take a genius to work out that you can get back far more than fifteen pounds a year and all whilst having such a great time!
The North West Harley Club now meet at the ‘Wheatsheaf’ pub in Appley Bridge on the first Wednesday of every month at 8 pm, all new faces are made very welcome!
