Three-Percenters (Italy)

Three-Percenters (3%er) Italy, Milano

Three-Percenters (3%er)

It all started many years ago in Austria, in ‘Faaker See’ during the Harley Rally that every year there is held.

There were three of us came together at that time was our group (the Milan Chapter of HOG) and after a long day on the bike, we were lounging over a beer in the bar of the town square. One of us began to argue with a HOG member who had been targeting.
In short the words passed to the facts and we were also involved in the scuffle.

The thing did not last as much as in Hollister and in fact shortly after a group of enormous Austrian police intervened promptly threatened to take us immediately in jail if we had not interrupted the colourful exchange of ideas.

Perhaps we do not yet know, but that night they were born Three-percenters.

During a hot night in 1947, in the town of Hollister, California, something happened that was destined to profoundly impact the way motorcycling was experienced in the years to come and
during that weekend the small provincial town hosted a motorcycle rally.

It’s not clear why two groups of motorcyclists started making noise by getting drunk and breaking everything.
The press gave ample coverage to the event, so much so that the AMA (American Motorcycle Association) issued an official statement.
In the text the AMA stated that 99% of motorcyclists were good people who respected the law while only one percent of them were troublemakers and no good people.

From that moment on, the members of many motorcycle clubs not affiliated with the AMA (and therefore defined as ‘outlaw’ clubs), began to declare themselves ‘one percenters’, that is, to recognize themselves in that percentage of troublemakers from which the Motorcycle Association dissociated itself.

The origin of our name ‘Three-percenters’ is inspired by that fact.

For us, the group meant first of all friendship but also a spirit of initiative, great freedom and intolerance towards imposed rules, a bit like Hollister’s grandparents.

Since that day we have consolidated our brotherhood more and more through great motorbike trips to distant countries, but also by sharing problems and satisfactions, helping each other and always being united in decisions that concern our group.

So far the magic and pleasure of traveling and being together don’t seem to have any intention of diminishing.
