Coggeshall Bastards (CB’s) MCC/MC from Essex, large infamous club formed in the late 1960’s and remained together through ’till the early/mid 1990’s when they went their own separate ways, with some joining the Angels and others the Outlaws.
Associated clubs included the Billericay Bastards Essex, Suffolk Bastards in Sudbury, Iron Cross Club from Clacton Essex, Filthy Few from Essex & East Coast & the Dirty Dozen from Harwich Essex.
Coggeshall Bastards

The original CB’s & founders got together due partly to battles with Braintree & Colchester bikers.
They used to party in a local barn and among others the London Road Rats MC would party & ride along with them.

Edna’s Cafe used by locals and lorry drivers who were using the main A120 which ran past right outside in the days before the A12 by-pass was built. This cafe was the first meeting place of the original CB’s, and as time went on you could often find them in The Bungalow and Romaines cafes at Marks Tey, Colchester, Essex.

Hello, My grandad was Ian Bristow. I was a young boy when he died. I don’t remember much of him. No one has ever shed any light on his life. If any of you knew him and would be willing to share a few stories over a drink one day I’d be happy to pay the bill haha
Hi
I think I may have known your Grandad, called Ian.
Did he originally come from Hull and moved to Coggershall in about 1958 with his mum?
Did he have 2 step brothers one called Maxwell?
I knew your grandad Ian Bristow a little. I found him to be a friendly chap. He used to socialise in the Colne Lodge, Crouch Street, Colchester. (There is a Colchester Colne Lodge Remembrance Group on facebook) There was a leather jacket ban in there (sometimes) but they never asked Ian to takes his jacket off… or those standing with him. Although he didn’t come across a being ‘tough’, just a regular biker. He had a Honda 1000cc motorbike. At one time (late 70she lived at 60 or 62 North Station Road in Colchester,

I had a good friend, Nigel, who I first met in Colchester. He was a full member of the East Coast Filthy Few. Eventually he took me to an ECFFMC gathering at the Roaring Donkey in Clacton, where I was introduced to Sid, the Club President. We later went on to a party on the beach at Point Clear, where various members started to knock shit out of each other with burning railway sleepers. This was the early 80’s. Seeing Nigel a few years later, he told me that ECFFC only had a about 5 bikes on the road due to extreme violence by a London MC, which I believe was the 59ers, which left a number of ECFFMC members dead. Previously ECFFMC had approaching 100 active bikes. At school in the 60’s, if my Dad took us through Coggeshall in the car, me and my brother would hide for… Read more »
I was one of the Colchester greasers John & Layer Road Boot Boys helped us out on more than one occasion 🙂
I remember Don Batt from the DTs, but only met him a coupla times in the Animals (Lion & Lamb) and Saracens Head in Chelmsford. Other local pubs back in 70s were the Golden Fleece and the Countryman (both great for getting yer head kicked in), and the more genteel Steamer, and Railway. Later, in the 80s the Woopack and Prince of Orange were decent.
My dad and uncle were coggeshall bastards my dad Peter parris was commonly known as mary and my uncle they all called lurch
Did your dad live up Hill Rd Coggeshall and always in a red checked shirt, if it was him I think he must have been one of the last CB’s to be seen riding in the village. Oh, I might be thinking of Max Parish, that name just sprung to mind from nowhere lol
I knew Lurch, he was a nice guy.
Thanks so much for that pic Bob!

Hi
As I mentioned in an earlier reply to Jamie, I think I knew your Grandad called Ian
Did your grandfather originally come from Hull and move to Coggershall in about 1958 with his mum?
And did he have 2 step brothers one called Maxwell?
I also replied to Jamie….. I knew your granddad Ian Bristow a little. I found him to be a friendly chap. He used to socialise in the Colne Lodge, Crouch Street, Colchester (There is a Colchester Colne Lodge Remembrance GROUP ON Facebook). There was a leather jacket ban in there (sometimes) but they never aske Ian to take his jacket of… or those standing with him. Although he didn’t come across as being ‘tough’, just a regular biker. Hey my dad was peter parris and he had a brother David parris
Hi Jacquoline,re your ex Tony.I used to live opposite him in Hickstars Lane,he helped me out of many a scrape when I was younger and more of a hippie than a biker. On one occasion having come back from a weekend in Devon and getting beaten up badly from the local skinheads Tony got the lads together and had a weekend jaunt themselves, sadly I wasn’t a fly on the wall on that occasion.Later on I was running the local branch of Unwins off licence in Coggeshall and obviously had my fair share of “run ins ” with the local chapter. The mere mention of his name and I was safe.Growing up with Denis,Tony and Mick were certainly happy times for me and I often wonder what became of them all.Ray Hunter
